“Please if anyone else has experienced the same situation please share your story with me”

Summary – the cause – the injury –
today’s quality of life?

My husband and I have been together for 18 years we were so close and loving
and were best friends. A month and a half ago my husband was the passenger of a
car. They were in a severe accident, both the driver and my husband were
ejected out the front windshield of the volkswagon they were in with major
injuries. The doctors didn’t think either one of them would make it.

“Missing my dad every minute of everyday”

Summary – the cause – the injury – today’s quality of
life?

Casue was a fall on the ice and a week later he passed away

 

Please share your experience at the time you became aware of the
injury?

As soon as I saw the issues he was having after falling I became very
concerned but he was dealing with anger and refused treatment. A week later he
fell again (from unstability from first fall) and passed away from brain
bleeding.I didn’t know then that the anger was caused by the head injury.

“We have a terrific support group of staff, friends, brother and family”

Summary – the cause – the injury – today’s quality of life?

Son, age 11, on bicycle in 1983 crossing major intersection in Frankfurt, Germany, hit by a car and thrown 100 meters into air and landed at opposite side of the street on his head (no helmets). No broken bones, just TBI to both frontal and rear areas of brain. 3 mos. induced coma, 9 mos. in intensive care unit in German Uni-Klinik, and 2+ years in German Rehab center. Today, lives in own apartment 1 mile from Mom and has assistive staff mornings and evenings.

No helmet dirt bike accident. TBI R Frontal Lobe, R Temporal Lobe & Basal Ganglion. Spastic Hemi-Palegic.

 

Please share your experience at the time you became aware of the injury?

4 Years later I still cannot put it into words. Loss of my son, I have my son but, I lost the “Old Harley” not I have the”New Harley”, financial devastation.

“It was terrifying, I was 14”

My father, 46, severe frontal lobe injury. Car accident. Coma (Glasgow 5), in trauma for two weeks, then ICU, then rehab for 9 months. In short, mentally handicapped and cannot hold a job or make day to day life decisions. Deficits: Memory loss (no recall of months before or after accident); trouble with short-term memory, failed executive functioning;

“Can’t SEE a head injury”

Summary – the cause – the injury – today’s quality of life?

My husband was a passenger(front seat) in a car accident while on the job. He suffered a closed head injury – frontal lobe, 11 broken ribs, occipital fractures. His quality of life is significantly diminished – can’t work, can’t drive, reduced IQ, social skills very poor, very differenet person – on and on. My quality of life is
significantly diminished, also.

“There is someone out there that is a lot worse than me”

Summary – the cause – the injury – today’s quality of life?

Accident a work. Tramatic brain injuries to the frontal lobe and right and left temperals. Todays quailty of life in my eyes and experiences not good, but he thinks everything is fine because he still does not realize the extent of the injurues.

My daughter (15 yrs old) was in a single vehicle rollover accident 3 years ago. In addition to other injuries, she sustained a severe acute axonal brain injury.

“I have difficulty functioning”

Summary – the cause – the injury – today’s quality of life?

May 20, 2011. My mother was completely independant. She was sixty years old, worked full time, had her own home, drove her own car, and behaved like a woman of 30. Around midnight, after a night out to dinner with her friends, she was running up her front steps to get in out of the rain, lost her balance, and fell backward. She cracked her skull on the pavement, suffered multiple hematoma’s and other TBI related injuries. Two strangers found her, called 911,

I was 14 years old, sitting in a hospital, waiting for my father’s fate to determine my family’s fate, when a nurse handed me a slim book.

“Maybe you could read this,” she said.
